About us...
Cal Poly Electric Porsche (CPEP) is a newly revived club on campus dedicated to converting a 1977 Porsche 911S into a fully functional electric vehicle. We currently have about 35 active members including 8 officers, and we expect substantial growth in membership as we continue to hold informational sessions where interested students can gain further knowledge of the club. We are targeting students of all years and all majors, but engineering students are preferred due to the nature of the work. The electric vehicle industry is one that is expanding rapidly because of the detrimental effects gasoline has on the Earth. We are exploring this industry and hope to have a functional electric vehicle soon.
Goals...
The generosity of a Cal Poly alumnus who donated the Porsche has opened up a world of opportunity for our new club. Our goal is to use this incredible engineering opportunity to learn as much as possible about the mechanical systems of automobiles and the electrical drive systems that are gaining importance and popularity in today’s world.
We also hope to produce a first rate electric vehicle to enter into the annual REFUEL Electric Races at Laguna Seca. We will also take our electric Porsche to the annual Concourse de Elegance at Pebble Beach as well as several other Porsche and alternative fuel car shows across California. With our current build plan we expect our Porsche to perform well above factory stock performance.
